Album Cover
Above is my first draft of the front cover of my album. I tried to get a pop art style look through separating the portrait photograph from the background, then making the photograph black and white, changing the levels to get a drawing/cartoon kind of effect. I then added a layer on top of the background layer and a layer on the bottem and changed the layer type to multiply so that I could add in a background colour and I could add in the colour of the skin and the colour of the eyes and the jumper. For the back cover I did the same thing through separating the image from the background and going through the same steps as the start. One of the adaptations for my second draft from my feedback is to feather out the edges of his head as it appears to be choppy and not as smooth as it could be.

The colour scheme I chose was yellow and pink and turquoise and purple and switching per image. I chose the colours based on personal preference however from receiving feedback, in my final draft I am going to change the colours as I am targeting a male audience and the colours I have chosen are stereo-typically feminine colours.
The three steps taken to achieve the final image
First I removed the photograph from the background and made the picture black and white. I then adjusted the levels to remove some of the grey tones to make the image more flat and cartoon like to try to get the Andy Warhol silk screen effect.
Next I coloured in the image with a skin colour shade and then went on to colour the eyes. After I added in the colour of his jumper and then coloured in the background. To keep the detail of the image, I placed the colour layer above the layer of the black and white image and changed the layer to multiply so the detail wouldn't get lost. For the background layer I placed it below the layer of the black and white image changed the layer to multiply to fill in the background without covering up the image also. There may be an easier way to change the background colour, but this was the first time I was using Photoshop so I was going with a trial and error technique. To create the four different colour variances I flattened the image to make sure all of the layers were together, and then copied the full edited image and pasted it onto a new document. In the new document I switched the colours around so the background was pink and the jumper was yellow. I did the same again by pasting the image and changing the colours this time so the jumper was purple and the background was turquoise and switched the two around a second time so that the background was purple and the jumper was turquoise. I then saved all of the versions and opened a new document copied and pasted all of the different versions of the image and placed them into a square shape. For the back cover I used the exact same technique.
